Common Drainage Questions…

Here at Drain Doctor Oxford, we get asked so many questions on a daily basis regarding drainage. This can be anything from who is responsible, advise on how to prevent blockages, what are the best products to use, to asking what a hydro scrub is, what a drain survey is etc.

Who is responsible?

The pipe work and connecting drains from the property to the sewer within the border are the responsibility of the property owner - unless other properties drain through it. This means all sewers outside of your property boundaries and any sewers shared with another property will be down to your local water authority asset.

How to prevent blockages

In order to prevent blockages and to keep your drains running freely it’s best to run hot water through the sink after each use. Furthermore, throw a handful of baking soda into the drain and follow it with hot water. Lastly, pour 1 cup of vinegar down the drain and let it sit for 30 minutes; then chase it down with very hot water.

What is a hydro-scrub?

A hydro-scrub is a way of clearing fat and grease that build up in the drainage system. The jetting technology uses water pressure and volume to clear out clogs and debris from household pipes.
